Close your eyes and imagine being in a place that is comfortable to you and looking to the night sky, take a few moments for your eyes to adjust and gradually, you will start to see the stars, at first there may be one that shines brightly, but after a few moments more and more stars may become visible. And take some time to wonder at their brilliance, like tiny diamonds on black velvet.
There may be one star that you decide to focus on, one star shining brighter than the others. The star that will always be there, no matter how dark your nights may feel. And you may like to give that star a name which is personal to you, or you may like to call the star Hope.
There is always Hope that life can get better for you, even in your darkest nights. You were not born feeling dark, or anxious or frightened; it is something you have developed through experiences in your life, so please know that it is possible to change the way you are feeling, because you have felt different before, and, so it is possible for you not to feel your darkness in the future, to see and feel the lightness that you were born with.
As day follows night, light will always follow dark.
And if you would like to go further now, you can visualise yourself early one morning awakening to a beautiful sunrise, breaking through the dark, the black, turning to an array of colour, hues of pink, crimson, yellow and orange. Bringing some colour to your life again and that colour can represent anything you need now from life – a lift in spirit, some motivation or determination to do something, just for today, that you may not have done for a long time, or you may not have done before.
And allow the colour of the sunrise to fill your vision and feel its beautiful glow penetrating your body, your soul, softening muscles and releasing some tension – as much as you can today, right now.
Allow yourself for a short moment to feel an enjoyable, positive feeling that you may not have felt for a while, it could be hopefulness, it could be relaxation, it could be calm, it could be happiness or belief that you have the ability to change something in your life, if just for a moment, a minute, a few minutes. It could be the realisation that now is the time to reach out and ask for help or support. Whatever it is, make the feeling right for you.
Visualise the beautiful colours of the sunrise and turn the dials up on the colours to make them so vibrant they penetrate every part of you with a positive anticipation that the future could be brighter, enveloping you in protection. Maybe you can picture yourself doing something you would love to do in the future and doing it with ease. Enjoy the image for as long as you would like.
If dark descends again, look for your star, visualise thousands of beautiful stars penetrating the dark, stars representing change is possible in your life, invading your darkness with light and focus on your star of Hope.
Use your thoughts and imagination for a few moments each day, or when you can, to visualise your bright star in the darkness, your sunrise, your possibility of change. You can visualise them at any time you need and allow the feeling to fade as you turn up your brightness and Hope.
Maybe you will find yourself drawn to look out for the stars each night, or to download a starry night or a gorgeous sunrise screensaver on your phone or computer. Maybe you will be drawn more to wear the colours of a sunrise.
The subconscious mind cannot differentiate between imagination and reality and so if you have been able to visualise just a small part of this exercise, then there is a possibility you can change your life in a bigger way.
Here’s hoping you have stars in your night and a sunrise in your soul each day.
