To become good at anything you have to practice and happiness is no different, to some people that comes easy, but then like me, they may have been practicing happiness all of their life!
Being grateful and appreciating the small things in life is a great start; seeing a child playing, a bird outside your window, maybe some recognition at work, or from the family if you have cooked a nice meal. The more you recognise and have gratitude for the small things that bring you joy, the more it will become habitual, you will attract an increased amount of positivity and the happier your life can become.
When you recognise and give gratitude to the small things, take time to understand what it is about it that makes you happy, so if it is a child playing, like the one above - is it the smile on their face, the whiteness of their tiny teeth, the giggle, the paint colours, the way they are looking up hoping for love and assurance? What is it that makes you personally feel good?
To bring more happiness to your life, detail in your mind, or make a list of the things and people that make you happy and the things you want in life. Then cross-check it to the people around you and the activities you undertake - do they match? If they do, that's great; see more of those people, do more of those things.
What else would make you happy too - is it a job, retirement, a partner, a house, a holiday? Be specific when you think about it, add detail. For example, if you are looking for a new partner, unless you have a clear picture in your mind what kind of attributes you want then how will you notice if they pass you in work, at the gym, or deliver your parcel?
Have you ever noticed when you are looking for something new - a particular car, TV, pair of jeans that you see them everywhere? This is because your conscious mind has informed your subconscious mind, and it is then constantly scanning to bring you what you want. So be clear about the things that make you happy and make a habit on focussing on your happiness and you will attract more in abundance.
If something or someone is making you unhappy, then work out how it or they are negatively affecting you, and then consider what you may be able to do to make a change, who could help you and what resources you have. Maybe you can't identify why yourself and you may need to reach out for help to a friend or family member, a work colleague or professional to help you.
